Meet the Murphy Family
“We believe in Caltech. It’s been so rewarding to experience our sons’ metamorphosis and be included in the process.” – Laura and William Murphy P17, 18.
Caltech has always been a special place. Since our founding, we’ve been recruiting the brightest minds into an intimate community of academics. It’s no wonder parents Laura and William Murphy enjoy watching their sons—Colin ’17 and Tristan ’18—grow and thrive in this environment.
The Murphys fell in love with Caltech at Prefrosh Weekend, and their enthusiasm for the Institute has only increased. They’ve attended several Summer Send-Offs, served as panelists for the Undergraduate Admissions Office, and stay connected through the Caltech Parents Facebook page and by giving back. “Caltech has been so generous to our sons with scholarships,” says William. “We want to pay it forward and be generous back.”
Your support of the Caltech Parents Fund allows the Institute to meet its highest priorities on campus, including scholarships. Annual gifts from our current and past parents build on our legacy and provide students with one-of-a-kind opportunities to SURF, study abroad, and prank our frenemies at MIT.
I’ve had the privilege to meet so many proud and generous parents who, like the Murphys, are passionate about Caltech’s mission. These parents open their homes for events, host and feed groups of students traveling through their towns, and cheer on our Techers at athletic events and academic competitions.
This spring, we’re counting on your support to help future generations of Techers embrace their Caltech journey. “We see our kids giving back one day,” says Laura. “Our sons have already developed such wonderful friendships with recent grads, their housemates, and fellow students. Caltech is part of our family now.”
The Parents Program is here to connect you to all things Caltech and encourage our Techer families to “pay it forward,” like the Murphys. Make a gift today, and support our efforts to change the world.
Yours in Curiosity,
