Dr. Robert H. Dalton '25 PhD '28

Dr. Chris Dalton '65 and Ellen Dalton made a gift in support of the Robert H. Dalton Memorial Fund and Chemistry in memory of Dr. Robert H. Dalton '25, PhD '28.

Dr. Robert H. Dalton '25, PhD '28 was born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1902, moved with his parents to Toronto in 1905 and then relocated to Southern California with his father and younger brother in 1912.  He graduated from Hollywood High School and attended UCLA for one year before transferring to Caltech in 1922.  He earned BS and Ph.D degrees in Chemistry from Caltech in 1925 and 1928, respectively.  He worked closely with A. A. Noyes during his years in Pasadena.  After Caltech, he did postdoctoral research in England for a year prior to 40+ year career as a glass chemist with the Corning Glass Works in Corning, New York. Dr. Dalton very much enjoyed his time at Caltech and always spoke highly​ of the Institute.
